 God-Specific Rules

1. You can have as many mortal characters as you'd like, but you may only have two God characters without special permission.

2. Gods can be good or evil or neutral or any shade in between. Their personalities are up to you!

3. The Gods have one jurisdiction that no others can supercede. A god of lightning is a god of lightning and specializes in it. However, the god of destruction might cast lightning in his/her line of work. That lightning is pure energy fueled by faith, and though powerful, is not true lightning caused by the gathering of energy in the upper atmosphere. But, if the God of Destruction got all chummy with the God of Lightning they could have a good ol' time increasing entropy.

4. Faith is power. A power-hungry god/goddess will want to gain as many followers as possible. Miracles are good, but so is the destruction of other gods' temples that oppose them. Building alliances, sewing distrust between others, it's all in the day's work

5. Gods can manifest in mortal form in the world whenever and however they want. It's a good way to find a reason to smite someone. You go down as a beautiful swan and some hunter shoots you? SMITE THEM ALL! It's only a coincidence that you had an argument with the patron goddess of hunters yesterday...

6. The temple is the focus of a God's power. The best miracles and the manifestation of a God's true form can only occur in a temple. Therefore, a power-hungry god would want a bunch of nice big temples. Power decreases as you head away from the temple. So after a certain point, the only way a God can venture forth into other lands is in mortal form and optimally accompanied by a mortal believer. The caveat is that, because of an ancient decree, the mortal can never know the identity of the god or the god un-manifests.

7. You can do about anything you want. However, a god's actions are fueled by faith. You can only do things they THINK you can do. Since you're a god and they have a lot of imagination that really does amount to a great deal. However, you can't do something like create an object from the future out of thin air. Your followers can't imagine that. But you CAN turn people into donkeys, if you're a god of animals or shapechanging.

8. Not all gods have to be power-hungry or have overt powers. You can be a nice, passive god of birthmarks if you want, benignly going about and giving unborn children birthmarks. If you feel peckish, you could give them an evil eye or something.

9. You can also interact with humans as a mortal and your liasons can result in demi-gods. If you want a demi god but don't want to roleplay it, stick him/her up as an adoptable. If nothing else, he/she might appear later as an NPC.

10. Right now, the most powerful god is the Sun God, Solanos. However, he's been weakening....

Creating a God
1. Unless you are applying for an Important God you must start out with a minor to moderately strong god.

2. Think of some facet of life you would like to control or influence. This can be practically anything, but it is recommended that you think of something that translates well into higher power ranges.
Example: Fred the Pillow-Fighting god can become more powerful, but it's not clear what his new abilities will be. However, a Lightning God might become a Storm God or an Energy God as he/she increased in power.

3. Choose some base form for your god. This is how that god will appear in Aethrin and also how he/she will look when manifesting on Mirithin for short periods.

4. Pick a totem animal or symbol. This could even be something like a sword or a design. However, if you use a totem animal you can visit Mirithin for extended periods of time and try to influence mortals as an animal. If you choose an inanimate object you can exert your influence through an object of that type, temporarily enchanting them.

5. Choose some powers relating to your godly jurisdiciton. A minor god can only minorly affect the mortal realm, while a major god can do practically everything short of destroying it. Read the example god and previously accpeted god's profiles to get a good idea of power restriction.

6. Power! How many followers you have determines your power. After you create a god character and it is accepted, a random number will be generated to figure out how many followers you have.

7. After you have your god character you may go about trying to influence other gods in Aethrin or actively interacting with mortals. You can go anywhere in Aethrin. You can't go everywhere on Mirithin. Think of appearing on Mirithin as a totem or as a disguised 'mortal' as a minor ability, while manifesting in your true form is a major ability. It takes energy.

8. After you apply and your god character is accepted, a random number generator will be used to generate the number of followers you have. All minor gods start with some random number of followers from between 1 to 100,000. Performing miracles and influencing mortals will gain you a random number of followers, with the range determined by what you do and how public the action is.

9. Have crazy-fun with this insane aspect of Mirithin!

Gaining Followers


- For every character who begins as your follower, you gain ten followers in your stats.
- For every character or NPC you convert to your religion through roleplay, you gain 1,000 to 10,000 followers (depends on the complexity of the roleplay)
- Using miracles near your temples or having your celestials impress mortals with feats YOU grant them (an extension of your power) will gain you 500 to 20,000 followers (again, depending on the complexity, your current strength as well as the location)
- Moving against another god can also convert their followers, but it can gain you enemies in Aethrin. If you form a mob of fanatics willing to burn down another god's temple, some of their followers will decide you're the stronger god.
- Answering prayers or cursing mortals will also gain you followers. (amount dependant on the situation)
- Other actions can also gain you followers, but they will be determined based on the situation.

The Rewards of Power

The first bonus to gaining followers is a general increase in power. This increase deals more with how other gods will treat you; it's hard to roleplay a gradual change in power. However, your miracles become easier to cast and the effects become stronger.

Bonuses!
-10,000 followers: You now have enough followers that you can build one small temple in each of the three major cities, or one medium one in one city.

-25,000 followers: You can create one holy relic! At this point, you only have enough power to have one relic at a time. Once that is destroyed, you can imbue another.

-50,000 followers: Using your newfound strength you can mold the forces of aether to create one celestial being. You can create them in any image you would like, and instill in them whatever directives you desire. Your angel/demon can manifest on Mirithin and travel alone, but will have greater power near believers. Additionally, celestials can tell others of their true nature. Celestials must be cautious on Mirithin, however. They can be hurt, and celestials of minor gods are rather weak physically compared to humans.

-75,000 followers: You can now nominate Paladins, granting certain abilities to your most devout. Your paladin can be granted minor versions of your own abilities, and you can imbue an additional holy relic for their use and bind it to them personally.

-100,000 followers: You are on your way to becoming a major force in the pantheon! At this stage you can have medium temples in all the cities. You can speak directly to your Paladins and High Priests, rather than having to communicate through your angels (you can now have two!) or through indirect means.

-500,000 followers: You have five angels, seven holy relics, and at least three major temples. Construction of your High Temple (a large structure rivaling the size of some small towns) has begun.

-1,000,000 followers: You are now considered a major god! A city has started to form about your High Temple, named after you. You have twenty angels, ten paladins or templars, twenty holy relics, and your power has spread to include subtle manipulation of fate. You now have minor control of the destiny of some of your followers; you can decree that a child born in your High Temple will become a Paladin, or will possess a certain mount, or grow up with a certain ability. Furthermore, you can twist fate slightly to ensure that at some point two people will meet up, if they were not destined to meet before.
