The Desecrated Forest Many generations ago, the Desecrated Forest was a beautiful wetland teeming with life. No one knows what exactly occured within its boundaries, but over time it gradually warped and twisted into what it is today. Few venture near it, for it eminates the smell of death. Some fear its unnamed evil is slowly spreading and will eventually engulf the world. Others believe that it is really a protection set by a mighty sorceror to guard a powerful artifact. Carpathan Carpathan, capital of the rugged and mountainous country of Thalanos, is a bustling trade city. It's one of the only major cities throughout Thalanos, and everyone meets in the capital to trade and talk. There are few grand palaces in Carpathan, as few live in the capital. It relies on farmers from the small mountain valleys for food, so the population allowed in the city is limited. Rilan Rilan is the capital and largest port city in the coastal country of Varinos. 'The Floating City', as it is sometimes called, can put nearly a quarter of its population on boats at a time. The city itself is constructed in a natural bay. At one end of the city a major river empties out into the ocean. The river, Gilar, is a major trade route. It cuts through both Mixteca and Thalanos. The Grove of the Centyrs In a forgotten part of northeastern Varinos sits the Grove. Its origins are long forgotten and its purpose dissolved into myth. However, nearby villagers avoid entering the forest and no one ventures near for firewood or building supplies. Stories long forgotten have worked their way into the habits of the people, and the Grove is still a safe-haven for the Centyr race. |

South Cove The South Cove is only a short fifteen miles from Rilan. It used to be a favorite spot for fishing and playing, but a few years ago a pirate fleet sailed in and claimed the cove and its nearby rocky cave system as their own. They go out on raids to nearby towns, but the people of Varinos lack the ability to fight back against battle-hardened veterans. At last estimate there were nearly twenty pirates in the band. Nearly a century ago, a band of advocates claimed the island as a site to protect the dying dragon races. Today, the descendants of the dragon's saviors live in peace with the dragons. |
