It's no secret that I enjoy Magic: The Gathering. Making cards based off Mirithin plot and characters benefits me by bringing much amusement and YOU by making me draw art. Woo. And the world rejoices!
First off, I would like to say that the card layout and abilities and all are (c) Wizards of the Coast. I just compile bits and pieces of MTG cards into a layout that fits the new card I want, then add text and pictures. Characters are (c) their owners. Art is (c) me, but if you're really wanting to steal tiny art thumbnails I worry.
On to the card information! For those of you who don't know Magic: The Gathering and the card layout, I'll give a brief explanation. This is more for your amusement than for actually explaining the mechanics of the game, for it is a very complex game and I won't waste your time.
It's Stranon! Woo! Alright, the parts of the card are as follows:
1. Name
2. Mana Cost.
3. Art
4. Card Type. Creature, Sorcery, Instant, Enchantment, Equipment, Land, etc... Creatures are further defined by what type of creature they are.
5. Set image and rarity. In this case, it's Stranon's set and it's a rare. I'm going to talk more about sets in a bit.
6. Text Box. The card's abilities go here, followed occasionally by 'flavor text' in italics.
7. Owner Stamp - NEW! Because these are digital and all, the Owner stamp shows who has them. I'm going to talk a bit more about these later.
8. Power/Toughness - the strength and defense of the creature
Right-o. That covers the layout of the card. Card backgrounds also change with the color of the card. Stranon is actually a special card with split mana. Probably should have done a different card for an example, but meh.
Sets
In the MTG game, cards are published in sets. Each set has a unique symbol. Depending on the rarity of the card, the set symbol can be black, silver, or gold.
Black=common
Silver=uncommon
Gold=rare
Well, sets will work a bit differently here. The set will actually show who OWNS the featured character.
Stranon = Sword
Katolin = Paw Print
Muse = Quill Pen
Woo!
Owner Stamps
This makes it possible to enforce the rarity of cards. When a card is made, there are one of three ways to get it.
1. If the card features your character, you automatically get a copy. Yay!
2. A secret code will be hidden somewhere around the site. If you find it, send it to me in a PM and you will get a surprise card. You won't know what card it will be until you get it. Usually, this code will be hidden in headers and footers of boards, etc. Just wander about and hope to find it!
3. A card might be given out as a prize or something for future contest-stuffums
Now, rarity will be enforced by the following:
Common Cards: will always be available on this sub-board for free. They're common. Yay.
Uncommon Cards: The secret code will be up for 5 people to find.
Rare: The code will be up until one person finds it.
Finally, back to the Stamps. The stamp shows that you are the 'owner' of the card.
Stamps:
Stranon: ...Stranon
Katolin: Dragon in flight
Muse: Quill Pen
And that should cover it!
