Name: Arikalen (Ari, for short)
Age: 26
Gender:Male
Race: Wind Dragon
Appearance:
---Dragon:
Height: 6'2" at the shoulder
Length: 16' from nose to tail
Wingspan: 20'
Weight: 206 lbs
Eyes: Gold
Mane: Grey-black
Ari's dragon form is a dusty blue with a pale blue underside and dark blue speckles. His entire body is actually covered with a fine downy fur - although he may look reptilian, he's actually a warm-blooded mammal. The fur is fine enough that it doesn't slow him down in flight, but warm enough to provide some warmth at high altitude. Ari's incredibly fast metabolism provides the rest. Because of his relatively large size (even if wind dragons are the smallest of the dragon races), Ari must eat nearly his own weight in food a day.
Ari is capable of shapeshifting into other creatures. It is easist for him to transform into something nearly his mass and hardest for him to transform into something incredibly small or large. The transformation is an innate power, and only draws slightly on ambient magical energy. Most of his transformation is fueled by his own energy. After transforming, Ari has to eat a lot of food - even more than he normally consumes. Because of this, he doesn't transform often. If he doesn't have enough energy, he can't change. Depending on the situation, not being able to change could be rather unfortunate. So he conserves energy as much as possible.
---Human:
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 145 lbs
Eyes: Gold
Skin: Pale, freckled
Hair: grey-black, worn long (mid-back) but put up in a loose ponytail when he cares long enough to get it out of his face.
As a human, Ari does his best not to attract too much attention. He hasn't been a human long, so some of his habits and mannerisms mark him as peculiar and strange. He tends to stare, which unnerves those around him. His golden eyes are obviously inhuman. He wears a blue shirt and grey trousers most days.
Because of human custom, Ari has managed to include the clothing he is wearing into the transformation. The fabric of his clothing is absorbed into the magic of the change and reappears when he next transforms into a human.
Occupation:Currently unemployed. He used to be a fisherman, until a storm battered his boat.
History:Arikalen is a bit of an outcast of two cultures. Rarely is a dragon born a shapeshifter. Shapeshifting is considered high-level magic, requiring centuries of dedication to perfect. It is also highly painful, as it involves manipulation of the skeletal structure. Ari, however, had none of those difficulties. Nearly from the time of his fledging, he has been able to transform with ease. At first he was looked at with envy and awe and acclaimed as a mage-genius. However, his ability in magic was not comparable with his ability to shapechange. To him, changing was not magic. It was just something he did. Try as they might, the elders couldn't even teach him a simple firestarting spell. His status quickly went from idol to freak. He never felt accepted, so he decided to leave the Conclave. He wandered for a few months, then stumbled upon a human city. After a few nights' observation, he was able to assume human form and walk among the fascinating creatures. Even though he was also considered a freak in this society, to him it was an acceptable outcasting. They weren't dragons, after all. He took what he had brought with him from the Conclave and purchased a small boat. With it, he was able legitamitely fish off the shore. Ari's one weakness was fish - he loved them with a passion. So every morning, he sailed out to a remote corner and fished. As a dragon, he was able to catch fish more efficiently. Unfortunately, one day a storm blew in and carried his boat toward the shore. He followed from within the low clouds, but he couldn't save his boat when humans were nearby. Seeing a dragon this close to town would start a monster hunt he couldn't afford to avoid. So he watched helplessly as his small boat crashed on the rocky shoreline.
By then, he'd been living a double life as a human for about six years. The loss of his boat finalized his decision to try something different. Now, he rides the winds of fate as a wanderer and a watcher, looking for the acceptance he longs to have.
